The Government of Canada is repealing the excise duty exemption for 100% Canadian wine on June 30, 2022. Please see the notice issued by the Canadian Revenue Agency: EDN75 Repeal of Excise Duty Exemption for 100% Canadian Wine.
Impacted Canadian wineries and cideries are responsible for paying excise taxes directly to the Canadian Revenue Agency before products are shipped to LCBO. This aligns with LCBO’s existing process for domestic wine.
For clarity, there is no impact to imported products. This change only relates to 100% Canadian wine that will no longer be exempt from this federal tax.
